How to Care For Your Hand Tied Extensions
FAQs
What are Hand-Tied Extensions?
With this type of extension method the wefts are sewn by hand, creating a thinner weft that has flexibility and lays flatter to the head than other wefted hair. These extensions are completely customizable leaving each guest with their own signature style
How are they installed? Does it cause damage?
They are sewn onto the head using a bead and thread method to help anchor the hair with fewer contact points. NO GLUE AND NO TAPE means less overall damage to your natural hair. Because none of your natural hair is inside the wefts, I’m able to isolate the wefts when cutting to make sure your natural hair remains untouched. With any extended hair method there is risk of some damage but with proper home care and staying on track with maintenance appointments this method is typically gentle enough where you will actually see your hair grow longer and fuller while wearing them.
How much hair do I need?
The amount of hair needed is determined by the length and fullness you are trying to achieve. A typical head of hair requires two rows and about 8-10 wefts. This is discussed during our consultation to make sure your goals can be reached.
What is the maintenance?
I offer one bead move up 3-4 weeks after initial install. The next appointment will be scheduled 6-8 weeks later where I will remove your extensions and reinstall. A trim is recommended every few months to keep the ends healthy. Cost of maintenance will be discussed during your consultation.
Am I a good candidate for Hand-Tied Extensions?
Anyone can be a good candidate for this extension method as long as you’re willing to make your hair a priority! This is a luxury service that requires salon grade shampoo and conditioner, hydrating serums and heat protection in order to achieve long lasting results. If you are not able to keep up with the proper styling products, your hand-tied extensions may become damaged faster than normal.
What products should I be using on my extended hair?
Paraben free. Sulfate free. I recommend Davines to all of my guests with extensions. The silicones found in their products are breathable, as they do not leave any negative residue on the hair, are easily removed with a mild shampoo and do not affect the performance of treatments. A hydrating serum and a thermal protector are recommended as well.
How long does the hair last?
Hand-Tied hair can last 6-12 months depending on your level of care.
